Passionate about equine dentistry

Where it all began…..

On graduating from Edinburgh Vet School in 2002 I went onto work for 2 years at Pool House Equine Clinic in Lichfield before moving to Shropshire in 2005. I worked as an equine vet for Old Pound Equine Clinic in Much Wenlock before the practice merged in 2011 with Hollybush Vets in Bridgnorth to form Severn Edge Equine.

My interest in equine dentistry started during my time at the Old Pound Equine Clinic. During this time I truly became passionate about the subject attending many specialist veterinary dentistry courses. As a director at Severn Edge Equine Clinic I pushed the dental side of the practice, building up the quality of the routine dentistry and performing the majority of remedial work myself.

Moving forward…..

Family life is busy! My wife and I seem to spend lots of time ferrying our 3 children to various sports clubs most evenings and weekends. Emily and Libby enjoy riding their ponies and are active members of the local pony club. William has more sense, and is following his Dad’s other passions, rugby and cycling.

With veterinary work getting more hectic and a busy home life, I decided 2020 was the ideal time to follow my passion and start a new venture, ‘Sanderson Equine Dentistry’.

In 2021 I took and passed the rigorous British Equine Veterinary Association (BEVA)/British Veterinary Dental Association (BVDA) accreditation examination in equine dentistry to become a qualified BAEDT equine dental technician. A full list of members is available from BAEDT .

In 2022 I gained my certificate in advanced veterinary practice designated in equine dentistry CertAVP (ED). Only a very small number of veterinary surgeons within the UK have both the BAEDT qualification and a CertAVP (ED).

Over the last 20 years I have been on numerous equine dentistry courses run by both BEVA and BAEDT, furthering my knowledge and honing my skill set.

I have attended conferences both at home and abroad to gain insights into the latest theories and modern techniques. I have also spent time visiting and working alongside some of the top Equine Dental Vets in the country.
